How Do You Know When It’s Time To Move On?

We all know breakups can be very tough. One minute everything is beautiful, exciting and love is well and truly in the air. The next, more and more is being demanded of you by your employer and you’re forced into an unfortunate situation after yet more broken promises.

When you know, you know, you know?

When you’re sure you’ve given your current role your best and can no longer deliver on what drew you to the role in the first place. It’s important to remember that feeling this way is not your fault. All experiences within your working life are important to your development.

There can be a tendency towards feelings of denial; being unsure that it’s really the end. We’ve all been told at some point that we shouldn’t give up on the things we love. However, there comes a point when you have to ask yourself whether the company you’re currently working for is the healthiest option for your career right now.

Self-Love (not to be confused with selfishness)

Keep your development close to your heart and make good decisions based on what makes you happy. Banish all niggling doubts that may have bubbled to the surface, such as, “maybe if I’d paid more attention in meetings?”

Finding reasons why something hasn’t worked out the way you’ve planned is a very human response but blaming yourself is not the answer.

It can take a long time to find the right connection. Only by focusing on your development and learning from your experiences can you give your best when you find the right role for you.

Your Next Move

When you do find your next role, it’s important to keep your mobile phone in your pocket. Don’t be tempted to send a quick text to your ex-employer or check up on how they’ve been.

Distance yourself as much as possible, so you can give your new role the chance it deserves. Now is a great time to start taking care of yourself, both physically and spiritually. Do some exercise, eat well, spend time with friends or family, revisit your hobbies and do the things that make you who you are.
