Following in the Footsteps of Microsoft by Introducing 4 Day Weeks

We’re joining the experiment as we introduce 4-day weeks for all our staff. After a period of rapid growth we want to give something back which will hopefully help us to get the most out of our team. Our aims to improve the work life balance of our employees by allowing them more time to spend with family and friends.

Inspired by the results of Microsoft’s Work-Life Choice Challenge in Japan, we are introducing 4-day weeks as of January 2020. The extra days leave will be rostered between a Monday and Friday in order to allow us to continue to deliver the same level of customer service. If successful we hope this 100/80/100 system will be a permanent benefit of working for GB Recruitment. We are offering 100% pay for 80% hours in a bid to achieve 100% productivity.

‘I was inspired by the results of the Microsoft experiment. The traditional workplace is a static concept which doesn’t always promote productivity. By introducing 4-day weeks we hope to encourage a happier workforce, increase retention within our team and make it easier to recruit.’

Antonio Tombanane – Managing Director GB Recruitment

Microsoft’s, Work-Life Choice Challenge, found that by allowing their employees Fridays off for a month productivity had increased by 40%. They are however not the first organisation to benefit from this experiment. New Zealand firm, Perpetual Guardian, also found an increase in productivity levels, lower stress levels and higher job satisfaction. Whilst Glaswegian company, Pursuit Marketing, introduced 4-day weeks 3 years ago and are reporting that sickness leave is at an all-time low as a result.

This move isn’t however without its critics. A recent government report claimed that the 4-day week is neither ‘realistic nor desirable’. We disagree as we believe that building a happy work environment is the key to success and rewarding employees is an important piece of that puzzle.

4-day weeks are the latest addition to our hugely successful staff engagement policy. Other benefits of working for us include flexible working hours, quarterly lunch clubs, your birthday off and ‘Beer Fridays’.

We’re proud to have recently moved to the C4DI following a 40% increase in revenue and are continuing to grow. Our aim is that by offering the right package we’ll be able to attract the right candidates. We’ve recently taken on three new employees but don’t worry more roles are due to be advertised in the new year.

‘As a recruiter I know full well that attracting the right candidate is all about offering the right package. By offering my team additional benefits and a better work life balance it allows me to attract and retain the right people for the business.’

Glen Halliwell – Associate Director GB Recruitment
